A Beautiful Tortoise Sculpture Brings in a Bit of Nature

  • Provided a replacement Tortoise for the park in Irwindale
  • Beautiful and realistic piece of playground art for children to enjoy
  • Made with weather-resistant, kid-tough material

Challenge

A landscape architect, in Irwindale, California, had contacted us requesting a tortoise sculpture. The one located at their park, had been vandalized and destroyed. Our design team needed to create a tortoise sculpture to replace it. We needed to create a piece that was tough and could last as long as a real tortoise.

Solution

To meet the customer's request, and to help against future vandalism, we needed to make something that could resist time, weather, and a beating. The tortoise was made with glass fiber reinforced concrete (GFRC) and filled to add weight and strength. This material is durable, long-lasting, and earth friendly. We also gave it a coat of anti-graffiti to help against future acts of mischief.

Result

Blending in seamlessly, the new tortoise sculpture is sure to add to the beauty of this local park. Everyone who visits won't be able to resist stopping to check it out and take a selfie. Kids love to play, and this piece is great for little ones to climb or sit atop. Parents appreciate the artistry and attention to detail, and park attendants love the low maintenance this piece requires. It is truly a piece for everyone to enjoy.
