Kids Have a Ball on Fun Themed Climbers at Sports Facility

Challenge

Long Island State Parks wanted custom play structures for the new sports-themed playground at Brentwood State Park. With funding from Governor Cuomo’s New York Works Initiative, the park saw the opportunity to incorporate durable—and fun—spheres that reflect the park’s primary function as a sports facility.

Solution

Our team designed and built sphere climbers in the shapes of a soccer ball and baseball. Each is constructed with GFRC (glass fiber reinforced concrete). The material is non-toxic and will stand up to hot summers and cold winters—and no special maintenance is required. Our child-tested design was crafted to motivate kids to move as well as help increase their core body strength.

Result

These custom play structures are a unique addition to the 52-acre facility, encouraging children to move, climb, play, and say, “When can we go back to the park with the giant soccer ball?”
